This 270,000 sf facility built in the 1860’s as a ship building shop had been abandoned for decades. The Brooklyn Navy Yard’s mandate was to renovate this facility to accommodate multiple food processing/ industrial tenants with the effect of creating hundreds of jobs while maintaining the original character of the building. With a construction budget of over $50M, BD Engineering was up to the task. We had to balance functionality and flexibility with the need to maintain the historic integrity of the building, all while achieving LEED Silver certification.

Our Mission

We understand that our clients have to live with and maintain the designs we provide, and that many clients ultimately have an end-user with specific needs that must be met. Balancing the needs of both the client and end-user is one of the most important factors in the overall success of a project.

– Brian Tannenhaus

We adhere to a simple “client first” philosophy where an extensive evaluation of both client and end-user needs are considered first and foremost in every project we undertake. This ensures each client will get the results they are looking for.
